  • Fresh crab - 500 grams
  • Fresh ginger - 30 grams, sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml (ensure halal-certified)
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Fresh coriander - a handful, for garnish
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 500 ml

Steps

  1. Clean the crab thoroughly under running water, removing any gills and ensuring it's free from sand.
  2. In a pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil and place a steamer basket over it.
  3. Arrange the cleaned crab in the steamer basket, shell side down, and sprinkle salt over it.
  4. Distribute the sliced ginger and minced garlic evenly over the crab.
  5. Cover the pot and steam the crab for about 15-20 minutes, or until the crabs turn bright orange and are cooked through.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil together.
  7. Once the crab is cooked, remove it from the steamer and drizzle the soy sauce mixture over the crab.
  8. Garnish with chopped spring onions and fresh coriander before serving.
