Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Cold water - 100 ml
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 50 ml
  • Carrot, finely diced - 50 grams
  • Bell pepper, finely diced - 50 grams
  • Green onion, chopped - 30 grams
  • Garlic, minced - 1 clove
  • Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Egg wash (beaten egg with 1 tablespoon water) - 1

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add cold water and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth, then wrap in plastic wrap and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, add vegetable oil. Sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant, then add the carrots and bell pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  3. Stir in the green onion, soy sauce, chili paste, sesame oil, black pepper, and cornstarch. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until well combined. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
  4. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Roll out the rested dough on a floured surface until it’s about 3 mm thick. Cut out circles of about 10 cm in diameter.
  5. Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the pastry over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  6. Brush the tops of the pastries with the egg wash. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Remove and let cool slightly before serving.
