Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Puff pastry - 250 grams (1 sheet)
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Carrot - 1 small, grated
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Sesame seeds - for garnish

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Drain the tofu and press it gently to remove excess moisture. Cut it into small cubes.
  3. In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the cubed tofu to the pan and fry until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Sprinkle in the red chili flakes, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated carrot, chopped green onions, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 4 equal squares.
  7. Place a spoonful of the spicy tofu mixture in the center of each pastry square. Fold the corners over to create a pocket and seal the edges with a fork.
  8. Place the tofu puffs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
