Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sriracha sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Spicy mayo (vegan mayo mixed with Sriracha) - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Press the tofu between paper towels to remove excess moisture for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, Sriracha, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  3. Cut the pressed tofu into burger-sized patties and marinate them in the sauce for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Coat each tofu patty in cornstarch to give it a crispy texture.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the tofu patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
  6. While the tofu is cooking, lightly toast the burger buns in a separate pan or oven.
  7. Assemble the burgers by spreading spicy mayo on the bottom bun, adding the tofu patty, cucumber slices, and chopped cilantro.
  8. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
