- Firm tofu - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sriracha sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
- Whole wheat burger buns - 2
- Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
- Fresh cilantro - a handful, chopped
- Spicy mayo (vegan mayo mixed with Sriracha) - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Press the tofu between paper towels to remove excess moisture for about 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, Sriracha, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
- Cut the pressed tofu into burger-sized patties and marinate them in the sauce for at least 10 minutes.
- Coat each tofu patty in cornstarch to give it a crispy texture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the tofu patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- While the tofu is cooking, lightly toast the burger buns in a separate pan or oven.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading spicy mayo on the bottom bun, adding the tofu patty, cucumber slices, and chopped cilantro.
- Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
