Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Bell pepper (red or green) - 1 medium, sliced
- Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
- Snow peas - 100 grams
- Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce (halal) - 2 tablespoons
- Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a mixing bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the tofu cubes to the pan, frying them until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed, and stir-fry the minced garlic, ginger, and Sichuan peppercorns for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the sliced bell pepper, julienned carrot, and snow peas to the pan, stir-frying for about 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
- Return the crispy tofu to the pan and pour in the soy sauce and chili oil, stirring well to combine all ingredients for another 2 minutes.
- Drizzle with sesame oil, season with salt and black pepper to taste, and toss in the chopped green onions.
- Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
