Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Bell pepper (red or green) - 1 medium, sliced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Snow peas - 100 grams
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce (halal) - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the pan, frying them until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed, and stir-fry the minced garlic, ginger, and Sichuan peppercorns for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Add the sliced bell pepper, julienned carrot, and snow peas to the pan, stir-frying for about 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  7. Return the crispy tofu to the pan and pour in the soy sauce and chili oil, stirring well to combine all ingredients for another 2 minutes.
  8. Drizzle with sesame oil, season with salt and black pepper to taste, and toss in the chopped green onions.
  9. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
