Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Dried red chili peppers - 3-4 (adjust to taste)
- Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
- Chili bean paste - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 100 ml
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the Sichuan peppercorns and dried red chili peppers. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet, stirring for another 30 seconds.
- Stir in the chili bean paste, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sugar. Mix well.
- Return the fried tofu to the skillet, adding water to create a sauce. Stir to coat the tofu in the sauce, cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes until heated through.
- Drizzle with sesame oil and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
