  • Ginger, minced - 1 tablespoon
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried red chili peppers - 4-5 pieces
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili bean paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Maple syrup - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and fry until golden and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, Sichuan peppercorns, and dried red chili peppers. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the soy sauce, chili bean paste, rice vinegar, and maple syrup, mixing well to combine.
  6. Return the crispy tofu to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  7. Season with salt to taste, then garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
