- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons
- Garlic, minced - 3 cloves
- Ginger, minced - 1 tablespoon
- Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Dried red chili peppers - 4-5 pieces
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Chili bean paste - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Maple syrup - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and fry until golden and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, Sichuan peppercorns, and dried red chili peppers. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, chili bean paste, rice vinegar, and maple syrup, mixing well to combine.
- Return the crispy tofu to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Season with salt to taste, then garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
