Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili paste (Doubanjiang) - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey or maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Vegetable oil - for grilling
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1 cm thick slices.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the Sichuan peppercorns, chili paste, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, and grated ginger to create a marinade.
  3. Place the tofu slices in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring each piece is well coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.
  5. Once heated, grill the marinated tofu slices for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.
  6. Remove the tofu from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.
