Ingredients

  • Chicken breast - 200 grams, sliced into thin strips
  • Firm tofu - 150 grams, cubed
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried red chili peppers - 4-5, adjust to taste
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into cubes and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix sliced chicken with cornstarch, salt, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the chili oil.
  4. Add Sichuan peppercorns and dried red chili peppers to the oil, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Increase the heat to high and add the marinated chicken to the skillet. Stir-fry until the chicken is cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add minced garlic, ginger, and the cubed tofu, tossing gently to combine. Cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  7. Add the sliced bell pepper and julienned carrot, stir-frying for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the remaining soy sauce, rice vinegar, and water. Pour the sauce over the stir-fry, then add sesame oil and mix well.
  9. Cook for another minute until everything is heated through and the sauce is well incorporated.
  10. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
