Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin - 200 grams, thinly sliced
  • Firm tofu - 200 grams, cubed
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried red chilies - 3-4, to taste
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili paste (like Doubanjiang) - 1 tablespoon
  • Cooking oil (preferably sesame oil) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. In a bowl, marinate the beef slices with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch for 10 minutes.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat the cooking oil over medium heat and add Sichuan peppercorns and dried red chilies. Stir-fry for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add minced garlic and ginger to the skillet, sautéing for another minute until aromatic.
  4. Increase the heat to high and add the marinated beef to the skillet. Stir-fry until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Gently add the cubed tofu to the skillet, being careful not to break it. Add chili paste and mix gently to coat the tofu and beef evenly.
  6. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. If necessary, season with salt to taste.
  7. Finally, sprinkle chopped green onions over the dish before serving.
