Ingredients
- Popcorn kernels - 1/2 cup
- Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Dried parsley - 1 teaspoon (optional)
Steps
- In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the Sichuan peppercorns for about 2-3 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
- Once toasted, remove from heat and crush the peppercorns lightly using a mortar and pestle or the back of a spoon.
- In a large pot with a lid, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the popcorn kernels and cover the pot.
- Shake the pot occasionally as the popcorn pops, about 3-5 minutes, until popping slows down.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for a minute to allow any remaining kernels to pop.
- Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl and immediately sprinkle with the toasted Sichuan peppercorns, salt, garlic powder, and chili powder. Toss well to combine.
- If desired, sprinkle with dried parsley for added flavor and color. Serve warm.
