Ingredients
- Beef sirloin - 300 grams, thinly sliced
- Sichuan peppercorns - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Green bell pepper - 1, sliced
- Red bell pepper - 1, sliced
- Onion - 1 medium, sliced
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
Steps
- In a dry skillet, toast the Sichuan peppercorns over medium heat until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and crush them coarsely using a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
- In a bowl, combine the sliced beef, crushed Sichuan peppercorns, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, black pepper, and salt. Marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper. Stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Add the beef back to the skillet with the vegetables, drizzle with sesame oil, and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped spring onions.
