Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin - 300 grams, thinly sliced
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Green bell pepper - 1, sliced
  • Red bell pepper - 1, sliced
  • Onion - 1 medium, sliced
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. In a dry skillet, toast the Sichuan peppercorns over medium heat until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and crush them coarsely using a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
  2. In a bowl, combine the sliced beef, crushed Sichuan peppercorns, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, black pepper, and salt. Marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper. Stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Add the beef back to the skillet with the vegetables, drizzle with sesame oil, and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with chopped spring onions.
