  • Firm tofu - 400 grams

  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, chili oil, honey, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
  3. In a pan, dry roast the Sichuan peppercorns over medium heat until fragrant, then grind them into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder.
  4. Add the minced garlic, ginger, and ground Sichuan peppercorns to the marinade, mixing well.
  5. Marinate the tofu cubes in the mixture for at least 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. While the tofu is marinating, prepare a frying pan with vegetable oil, heating it over medium-high heat.
  7. Toss the marinated tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  8. Fry the tofu in batches until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes per batch.
  9. Once fried, remove the tofu from the pan and let it drain on paper towels.
