Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder (boneless) - 400 grams
  • Soy sauce (Halal) - 4 tablespoons
  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Chinese five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions (chopped) - for garnish

Steps

  1. Cut the pork shoulder into thin strips, about 1.5 cm thick.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, Chinese five-spice powder, Sichuan peppercorns (crushed), chili powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to create the marinade.
  3. Add the pork strips to the marinade, making sure each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for better flavor.
  4. Preheat your grill or BBQ to medium-high heat.
  5. Remove the pork from the marinade and thread the strips onto skewers.
  6. Grill the skewers for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the pork is cooked through and caramelized on the outside.
  7. Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
