Ingredients
- Ground chicken - 150 grams
- Shrimp, peeled and deveined - 75 grams
- Shallot, finely chopped - 1 medium (about 50 grams)
- Garlic, minced - 1 clove
- Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Shumai wrappers - 12 pieces
- Chopped green onions - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, chopped shrimp, shallot, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Take a shumai wrapper and place about 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center. Gather the edges of the wrapper and pinch them together gently, leaving the filling exposed at the top. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
- Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil. Line the steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.
- Place the shumai in the steamer, ensuring they are not touching each other. Cover and steam for about 10-12 minutes until cooked through.
- Remove from the steamer and garnish with chopped green onions before serving. Enjoy your high-protein shumai with soy sauce or chili sauce on the side.
