Ingredients

  • Ground chicken - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Chinese five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onion - 2, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Rice flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Steamed bao buns - 2
  • Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Pickled carrots - 1/4 cup
  • Sriracha sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Mayonnaise - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, chopped green onion, chopped cilantro, rice flour, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until fully cooked through and nicely browned.
  4. While the patties are cooking, steam the bao buns according to package instructions until warm and soft.
  5. To assemble the burgers, spread mayonnaise and sriracha sauce on the inside of each bao bun.
  6. Place the cooked chicken patties inside the buns, and top with sliced cucumber and pickled carrots.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy your Shao Kao Burger!
