  • Honey - 20 grams
  • Five-spice powder - 5 grams
  • Ginger, minced - 10 grams
  • Garlic, minced - 5 grams
  • Rice vinegar - 15 ml
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 stalks
  • Black pepper - 2 grams
  • Water - 200 ml

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, five-spice powder, ginger, garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Score the skin of the pork belly in a crisscross pattern, being careful not to cut too deep into the meat.
  3. Place the pork belly into the marinade, ensuring it's well-coated, and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
  5. In a baking dish, add the marinated pork belly and pour in the water, then cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake the pork belly in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.
  7. After 60 minutes, remove the foil, increase the oven temperature to 220°C (428°F), and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the skin is crispy.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  9. Serve the sliced pork belly topped with chopped green onions and a side of steamed vegetables or brown rice.
