Ingredients
- Pork shoulder - 300 grams
- Gluten-free soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Honey - 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Chinese five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
- Fresh ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Red food coloring (optional) - a pinch
Steps
- In a bowl, combine gluten-free soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, Chinese five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red food coloring if using. Mix well to create a marinade.
- Cut the pork shoulder into long strips, about 5 cm thick, and place them in the marinade. Ensure the pork is well coated, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2 hours for enhanced flavor.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Remove the pork from the marinade and place it on the grill or a baking tray lined with foil. Reserve the marinade for basting.
- Grill the pork for about 25-30 minutes, turning occasionally and basting with the reserved marinade every 10 minutes, until the pork is cooked through and has a caramelized exterior.
- Once cooked, remove the pork from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it into bite-sized pieces.
- Serve the Shanghai BBQ Pork hot, garnished with chopped green onions if desired.
