Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Sesame oil - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons (ensure it's kosher)
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Honey or agave syrup - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Cornstarch - 3 tablespoons
- Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
- In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey (or agave syrup), minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
- Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let them soak for at least 10 minutes.
- After marinating, remove the tofu and coat each cube with cornstarch evenly.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Once hot, add the tofu cubes, ensuring they are not overcrowded, and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- In a small saucepan, combine the remaining sesame oil and the marinade. Bring it to a simmer and let it thicken for about 2-3 minutes.
- Once the tofu is crispy, pour the thickened sauce over the tofu and toss gently to coat.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top before serving.
- Serve warm with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
