Ingredients

  • Silken tofu - 300 grams
  • Vegetable broth - 200 ml
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Mushrooms (shiitake or button) - 50 grams, thinly sliced
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • White pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine vegetable broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms to the saucepan and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in water and stir until smooth. Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the simmering broth, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. While the sauce is thickening, gently heat the silken tofu in a microwave or steam it in a steamer for about 5 minutes until warm.
  5. Once the sauce is ready, carefully place the warmed silken tofu into bowls and pour the mushroom sauce over the top.
  6. Garnish with chopped green onions, and season with salt and white pepper to taste.
