  • Olive oil - 15 ml

  • Ground ginger - 1 gram
  • Five-spice powder - 1 gram
  • Chopped scallions - 30 grams

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  4. In another bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, ground ginger, five-spice powder, and chopped scallions. Stir well to combine.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a disc.
  6. Place a spoonful of the pumpkin filling in the center of each disc. Gather the edges and pinch them together to seal the bun.
  7. Place the buns on a parchment-lined steamer basket, ensuring they are not touching. Cover and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
  8. Steam the buns over boiling water for about 15 minutes until puffed and cooked through. Serve warm.
