Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 200 grams
- Pumpkin puree - 100 grams
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 10 grams
- Warm water - 100 ml
- Olive oil - 15 ml
- Salt - 3 grams
- Ground ginger - 1 gram
- Five-spice powder - 1 gram
- Chopped scallions - 30 grams
Steps
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- In another bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, ground ginger, five-spice powder, and chopped scallions. Stir well to combine.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a disc.
- Place a spoonful of the pumpkin filling in the center of each disc. Gather the edges and pinch them together to seal the bun.
- Place the buns on a parchment-lined steamer basket, ensuring they are not touching. Cover and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
- Steam the buns over boiling water for about 15 minutes until puffed and cooked through. Serve warm.
