Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Unsalted butter - 100 grams, chilled and cubed
- Cold water - 60 ml
- Ground beef or lamb - 200 grams, Halal
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Carrot - 1 small, finely diced
- Green peas - 50 grams, fresh or frozen
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Five-spice powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
Steps
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and cubed butter, mixing until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add cold water gradually, mixing until the dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add a little oil and sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.
- Add the minced meat to the skillet, cooking until browned. Stir in the carrot, green peas, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, black pepper, and five-spice powder. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, then let it cool.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 0.5 cm thickness. Cut out two circles large enough to fit your pie dish.
- Place one circle in the pie dish and fill it with the meat mixture. Cover with the second circle and seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
- Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
