Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
- Warm water - 100 ml
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Shredded cabbage - 100 grams
- Shredded carrots - 50 grams
- Chopped green onions - 30 grams
- Cooked lean ground chicken or turkey - 100 grams
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
Steps
- In a bowl, mix warm water and active dry yeast; let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In another bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt, then add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- In a skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add garlic and ginger, sauté for 1 minute.
- Add shredded cabbage, carrots, green onions, and cooked ground chicken or turkey to the skillet; stir-fry for 5-7 minutes. Drizzle with soy sauce and mix well. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it into a disc.
- Place a spoonful of the filling mixture in the center of each disc and fold the edges over to seal the bun. Pinch to secure the filling inside.
- Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Let them rest for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.
