Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 200 grams
- active dry yeast - 5 grams
- sugar - 10 grams
- water (warm) - 120 ml
- pumpkin puree - 150 grams
- carrot (grated) - 50 grams
- green onion (finely chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- black pepper - to taste
- olive oil - for sautéing
- cilantro (for garnish) - optional
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together. Slowly add the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for 30 minutes in a warm place.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add grated carrot, green onion, and ginger, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the pumpkin puree, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the mixture is heated through and well combined. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a circle about 10 cm in diameter.
- Place a generous spoonful of the pumpkin filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the filling inside. Place each bao on a piece of parchment paper.
- Prepare a steamer and steam the baos over boiling water for about 15-20 minutes until they are fluffy and cooked through.
- Serve warm, garnished with cilantro if desired.
