Ingredients

  • Pork spareribs - 500 grams
  • Soy sauce (Kosher) - 60 ml
  • Honey - 30 ml
  • Rice vinegar - 15 ml
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Five-spice powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Spring onions (chopped) - 2 stalks
  • Sesame seeds (toasted) - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, five-spice powder, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  3. Place the pork spareribs in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are well coated. Seal or cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  4. Remove the ribs from the marinade and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Reserve the marinade for later.
  5. Cover the ribs with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
  6. After 1 hour, remove the foil and brush the ribs with the reserved marinade. Increase the oven temperature to 220°C (428°F) and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the ribs are caramelized and slightly crispy.
  7. Remove from the oven and let rest for a few minutes. Slice the ribs and garnish with chopped spring onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
