Ingredients
- Pork belly - 300 grams
- Jasmine rice - 1 cup (200 grams)
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch piece, minced
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 1 and 1/2 cups (375 ml)
- Salt - to taste
- Pepper - to taste
Steps
- Start by slicing the pork belly into 1-inch cubes and season with salt and pepper.
- In a large skillet, heat sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the pork belly and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and ginger to the skillet, and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sugar. Pour this mixture over the pork belly and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the pork is simmering, rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a rice cooker or a pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Cook according to rice cooker instructions or bring to a boil, then cover and reduce to a simmer for 15 minutes until all water is absorbed.
- Once the pork belly is tender and the sauce has thickened, remove it from heat.
- Serve the rice in bowls, topped with the pork belly mixture, and garnish with chopped green onions.
