Ingredients

  • Pork belly - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Honey - 15 grams
  • Rice vinegar - 15 ml
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 10 grams, grated
  • Cucumber - 1 small, julienned
  • Fresh cilantro - 20 grams, chopped
  • Whole wheat bao buns - 4 pieces
  • Sesame oil - 5 ml
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, salt, and pepper to prepare the marinade.
  3. Cut the pork belly into 1-inch thick slices and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Place the marinated pork belly on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, turning once halfway through, until crispy and cooked through.
  5. While the pork is baking, steam the whole wheat bao buns according to package instructions until warm.
  6. Once the pork is done, slice it into smaller pieces if desired.
  7. Assemble the buns by placing a piece of pork belly in each bun, adding julienned cucumber, and topping with fresh cilantro.
  8. Drizzle a small amount of sesame oil over the assembled buns before serving.
