Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Warm water - 150 ml
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Ground halal pork - 150 grams
  • Shredded cabbage - 50 grams
  • Grated carrots - 30 grams
  • Chopped green onions - 20 grams
  • Soy sauce (halal) - 15 ml
  • Sesame oil - 5 ml
  • Ginger (minced) - 5 grams
  • Garlic (minced) - 5 grams
  • Pepper - 2 grams

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, gradually add it to the flour mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
  4. In the meantime, prepare the filling by mixing the ground pork, shredded cabbage, grated carrots, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced ginger, minced garlic, and pepper in a bowl until well combined.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small circle about 10 cm in diameter.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the pork and vegetable filling in the center of each circle. Gather the edges and pinch them together to seal the bun.
  7. Place the filled buns on parchment paper squares in a steamer basket and let them rise for another 10 minutes.
  8. Steam the buns over boiling water for about 15 minutes until they are fluffy and cooked through.
  9. Serve warm with soy sauce or chili sauce for dipping.
