- Duck breast - 250 grams
- Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Bao buns - 4 pieces
- Cucumber - 50 grams, julienned
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Pepper - to taste
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
- Score the skin of the duck breast in a crisscross pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat.
- Season the duck breast with salt, pepper, and five-spice powder on both sides.
- Place the duck breast skin-side down in a cold, dry skillet over medium heat. Cook for about 6-8 minutes until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
- Turn the duck breast over and sear for another 2-3 minutes, then transfer to the oven and roast for 15-20 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 65°C (150°F).
- Remove the duck from the oven, let it rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly.
- In a small bowl, mix the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
- Steam the bao buns according to package instructions until fluffy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Assemble the bao by spreading a little hoisin sauce mixture inside each bun, adding slices of duck, cucumber, and chopped green onions.
