Ingredients

  • Beef flank steak - 250 grams, thinly sliced
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Orange juice - 100 ml, freshly squeezed
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons, kosher
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, for garnish

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with cornstarch and mix until well coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to tenderize.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and orange zest. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the beef strips in a single layer and cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned, flipping halfway through.
  4. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil and stir-fry the green onions for about 1 minute.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and pour the orange sauce over it. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring until the beef is well coated and heated through.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and additional green onions if desired.
