Ingredients

  • Ground lamb - 400 grams
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Spring onion, finely chopped - 2 stalks
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cabbage leaves (for wrapping) - 4 large leaves
  • Cilantro, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Lime wedges - 2, for serving
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped spring onion, soy sauce, five-spice powder, chili paste, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the lamb mixture into 2 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 2.5 cm thick.
  3. Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the lamb patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked to your desired doneness.
  4. While the patties are cooking, prepare the cabbage leaves by washing and drying them. These will serve as the low-carb 'buns'.
  5. Once the patties are cooked, remove them from the skillet and let them rest for a minute.
  6. To assemble, place each lamb patty on a cabbage leaf, top with chopped cilantro, and serve with lime wedges on the side.
