Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Unsalted butter - 100 grams
  • Chicken breast (halal) - 200 grams, minced
  • Green onions - 2, finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 medium, grated
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and butter, mixing until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add cold water (about 100 ml) to the flour mixture, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. In a skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Add ginger and garlic, sautéing until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Add the minced chicken to the skillet and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the grated carrot, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until vegetables are tender. Remove from heat and let cool.
  6. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 3 mm. Cut out circles approximately 10 cm in diameter.
  8. Place a spoonful of the chicken filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and crimp the edges to seal.
  9. Brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.
  10. Arrange the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
