Ingredients

  • Mushrooms (shiitake or button) - 150 grams, finely chopped
  • Nori seaweed sheets - 2 sheets, finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 small, grated
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2, finely chopped
  • Dumpling wrappers - 20 pieces (store-bought or homemade)
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon (for dusting)
  • Water - for sealing wrappers and steaming

Steps

  1. In a skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the chopped mushrooms, grated carrot, and chopped nori to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the mushrooms release their moisture and become tender.
  3. Stir in the soy sauce and chopped green onions, cooking for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the filling to cool slightly.
  4. Place a dumpling wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the mushroom filling into the center of the wrapper.
  5. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water. Fold the wrapper in half, pinching the edges to seal. You can pleat the edges for a decorative touch.
  6. Repeat the filling and sealing process until all wrappers are filled. Dust the finished dumplings lightly with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  7. Prepare a steamer by boiling water in a pot and lining the steamer basket with parchment paper. Place dumplings in the basket, making sure they do not touch.
  8. Steam the dumplings for about 10-12 minutes until they are translucent and cooked through.
  9. Serve hot with a dipping sauce of soy sauce mixed with a splash of rice vinegar and chili oil, if desired.
