Ingredients

  • Seitan - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Scallions - 2, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, toasted
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Vegetable oil - for grilling

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, maple syrup, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to create the marinade.
  2. Cut the seitan into bite-sized pieces and add it to the marinade, stirring to coat evenly. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.
  4. Remove the seitan from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later. Grill the seitan pieces for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until they are charred and heated through.
  5. In the last few minutes of grilling, brush the reserved marinade onto the seitan for added flavor.
  6. Once done, remove the seitan from the grill and let it rest for a minute. Sprinkle with chopped scallions, toasted sesame seeds, and red chili flakes if desired.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice or in a wrap.
