Ingredients
- Seitan - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Scallions - 2, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, toasted
- Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (optional)
- Vegetable oil - for grilling
Steps
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, maple syrup, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to create the marinade.
- Cut the seitan into bite-sized pieces and add it to the marinade, stirring to coat evenly. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with vegetable oil.
- Remove the seitan from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later. Grill the seitan pieces for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until they are charred and heated through.
- In the last few minutes of grilling, brush the reserved marinade onto the seitan for added flavor.
- Once done, remove the seitan from the grill and let it rest for a minute. Sprinkle with chopped scallions, toasted sesame seeds, and red chili flakes if desired.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or in a wrap.
