Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 300 grams
  • Sichuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Lettuce leaves (large, such as iceberg or romaine) - 4 leaves
  • Cucumber - 1 small, thinly sliced
  • Carrot - 1 small, julienned
  • Fresh cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a spice grinder, coarsely grind the Sichuan peppercorns and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground Sichuan peppercorns, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, chili oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into two equal patties.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add a little sesame oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  5. While the patties are cooking, prepare the lettuce wraps by washing and drying the leaves. Place two leaves on each plate.
  6. Once the patties are cooked, assemble the burgers by placing a patty in each lettuce wrap. Top with cucumber slices, julienned carrot, and chopped cilantro.
  7. Drizzle a little extra chili oil on top if desired and serve immediately.
