Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 200 grams
  • Lotus leaves - 2 pieces
  • Mushrooms (shiitake or wood ear) - 50 grams, dried
  • Carrot - 1 medium, diced
  • Green peas - 50 grams, frozen
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 400 milliliters

Steps

  1. Soak the glutinous rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight. Drain before using.
  2. Soak the dried mushrooms in warm water for 20 minutes until softened. Drain and slice them.
  3. In a pan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté until fragrant.
  4. Add the diced carrot and mushrooms to the pan, cooking for about 5 minutes until tender.
  5. Stir in the green peas, soy sauce, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the drained glutinous rice with the sautéed vegetable mixture.
  7. Place a lotus leaf on a flat surface and spoon half of the rice mixture onto the center. Fold the leaf over the rice to create a parcel, and secure with kitchen twine or kitchen string.
  8. Repeat with the second lotus leaf and remaining rice mixture.
  9. In a steamer, bring water to a boil. Place the lotus leaf parcels in the steamer and steam for 30-40 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and fragrant.
  10. Remove the parcels from the steamer, unwrap, and serve warm.
