- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
- Vegetable broth - 100 ml
- Fresh lemon juice - 3 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Chopped green onions - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil and sauté the minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Pour in the vegetable broth, lemon juice, soy sauce, and maple syrup, stirring well to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Return the tofu to the skillet and toss it in the lemon sauce until well coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve the lemon tofu hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
