Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Vegetable broth - 100 ml
  • Fresh lemon juice - 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Chopped green onions - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil and sauté the minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  6. Pour in the vegetable broth, lemon juice, soy sauce, and maple syrup, stirring well to combine.
  7. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Return the tofu to the skillet and toss it in the lemon sauce until well coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  9. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  10. Serve the lemon tofu hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
