Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia) - 300 grams
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Fresh lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce (low sodium) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 1/4 cup

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  2. Add the fish fillets to the marinade, ensuring they are evenly coated. Let them marinate for 15 minutes in the refrigerator.
  3. While the fish is marinating, prepare a steaming setup using a bamboo steamer or a heatproof plate over a pot of boiling water.
  4. Once the fish has marinated, place the fillets in the steamer and pour the remaining marinade over them.
  5. Cover and steam the fish for about 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. In a small saucepan, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Bring it to a gentle simmer while stirring until it thickens slightly.
  7. Serve the steamed fish hot, drizzled with the thickened marinade, and garnish with chopped green onions and cilantro.
