Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin - 250 grams, thinly sliced
  • Jasmine rice - 150 grams
  • Beef broth - 500 ml
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Chinese five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Cilantro - for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 20 minutes.
  2. In a medium pot, bring 500 ml of beef broth to a simmer. Add the soaked rice and cook on low heat for about 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and absorbs the liquid.
  3. While the rice is cooking, heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the sliced beef sirloin to the skillet, seasoning with soy sauce, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through.
  5. Once the rice is done, fluff it with a fork and divide it between two serving bowls.
  6. Top the rice with the beef mixture, ensuring to include the juices from the skillet.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and cilantro before serving.
