Ingredients
- Eggs - 4 large
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Water - 300 ml
- Black tea leaves - 1 tablespoon
- Star anise - 2 whole
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Peppercorns - 5 whole
Steps
- In a saucepan, place the eggs and cover them with water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the eggs simmer for 8-10 minutes.
- Remove the eggs from the water and place them in a bowl of ice water to cool for about 5 minutes.
- Gently tap the eggs on a hard surface to crack the shells, creating a web of cracks without removing the shells.
- In a separate pot, combine the soy sauce, 300 ml of water, black tea leaves, star anise, cinnamon stick, salt, and peppercorns.
- Bring this mixture to a simmer over low heat and allow it to cook for about 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Add the cracked eggs to the soy sauce mixture, ensuring they are submerged. Simmer on low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Turn off the heat and let the eggs steep in the mixture for at least 1 hour, or overnight in the refrigerator for a deeper flavor.
- Once ready, remove the eggs from the marinade, peel them, and serve as a snack or appetizer.
