Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar-free hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Romaine lettuce leaves - 4 large
  • Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar-free hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, five-spice powder, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Cut the pork shoulder into thick strips and marinate in the sauce for at least 30 minutes, preferably refrigerated for a few hours.
  4. Place the marinated pork on a baking sheet and roast in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until fully cooked and slightly caramelized, turning halfway through.
  5. Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing into thin pieces.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing the sliced Char Siu pork on a large romaine lettuce leaf, topped with cucumber slices and chopped green onion.
  7. Wrap the lettuce around the filling to create a burger and serve immediately.
