Ingredients

  • Whole fish (e.g., tilapia or mackerel) - 400g
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 3 tablespoons
  • Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Lemon - 1, for garnish

Steps

  1. Clean and gut the fish, then score the sides with shallow cuts to allow the marinade to penetrate.
  2. In a bowl, combine minced garlic, grated ginger, gluten-free soy sauce, chili oil, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to create the marinade.
  3. Place the fish in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it, ensuring it coats both the inside and outside. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Once hot, place the marinated fish on the grill.
  5. Cook the fish for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Remove the fish from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped spring onions and cilantro, and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
