- Fresh eel - 400 grams
- Soy sauce - 50 ml
- Mirin - 30 ml
- Brown sugar - 15 grams
- Sesame oil - 10 ml
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Clean the eel thoroughly and cut it into 2 equal halves.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, black pepper, and lemon juice to create the marinade.
- Place the eel halves into a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat the grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grates.
- Remove the eel from the marinade and place it on the grill. Grill for about 5-7 minutes on each side, basting with leftover marinade occasionally, until the eel is cooked through and has nice grill marks.
- Once cooked, remove the eel from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Garnish with chopped spring onions before serving.
