Ingredients

  • tempeh - 200 grams
  • soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • honey - 2 tablespoons
  • garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • black sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • water - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Slice the tempeh into 1 cm thick pieces and steam for 10 minutes to enhance its texture and flavor absorption.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and water to create the marinade.
  3. Add the steamed tempeh slices to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour for more flavor.
  4. Preheat a grill or non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  5. Remove the tempeh from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and grill for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and slightly caramelized.
  6. In a small saucepan, bring the reserved marinade to a boil and simmer for 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Serve the grilled tempeh drizzled with the thickened marinade, garnished with chopped green onions and black sesame seeds.
