Ingredients

  • Tempeh - 200 grams
  • Hoisin sauce - 4 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, for garnish

Steps

  1. Slice the tempeh into 1/2-inch thick rectangles.
  2. In a bowl, mix hoisin sauce, soy sauce, maple syrup, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
  3. Add the sliced tempeh to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Heat sesame oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  5. Remove the tempeh from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later. Sprinkle cornstarch over the tempeh and toss to coat.
  6. Place the tempeh in the heated skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Pour the reserved marinade over the tempeh in the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  8. Serve the hoisin glazed tempeh hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
