Ingredients

  • Jasmine rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 300 milliliters
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2, finely chopped
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon (gluten-free if needed)
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and simmer for 15-18 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  4. While the rice cooks, heat the vegetable oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing until fragrant (about 1-2 minutes).
  5. Once the rice is cooked, remove it from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine the fluffed rice, sautéed garlic and ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix gently until well combined.
  7. Serve the Hakka Steamed Rice warm as a main dish or alongside your favorite protein.
