Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs - 400 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, red chili powder, five-spice powder, sesame oil, honey, lime juice, salt, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for more flavor.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (about 200°C / 400°F).
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off. Discard the remaining marinade.
  5. Grill the chicken thighs for about 6-7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F) and the chicken is nicely charred.
  6. Remove from the grill and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
