Ingredients

  • Pork belly - 500 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Hoisin sauce - 30 ml
  • Honey - 30 grams
  • Rice vinegar - 15 ml
  • Five-spice powder - 5 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 10 grams, grated
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Spring onions - 2 stalks, chopped for garnish

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create a marinade.
  2. Cut the pork belly into thick slices, approximately 2-3 cm thick, and place them in the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for a stronger flavor.
  4. Preheat your grill or BBQ to medium-high heat.
  5. Remove the pork belly from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Reserve the marinade for basting.
  6. Place the pork belly slices on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, basting with the reserved marinade, until they are caramelized and cooked through.
  7. Once cooked, remove the pork belly from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  8. Slice the grilled pork belly and serve hot, garnished with chopped spring onions.
