- Portobello mushrooms - 4 medium-sized

- Brown sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Chinese five-spice powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Spring onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- Clean the Portobello mushrooms with a damp cloth and remove the stems.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, brown sugar, Chinese five-spice powder, and ground black pepper to create the marinade.
- Place the mushrooms in the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Place the marinated mushrooms on the grill, gill side down, and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Flip the mushrooms and grill for another 5-7 minutes until tender and slightly charred.
- Remove from the grill and let rest for a couple of minutes.
- Garnish with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds before serving.
