Ingredients

  • Lamb shank - 2 pieces (approximately 500g each)
  • Soy sauce - 60ml
  • Shaoxing wine - 30ml
  • Honey - 30g
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander - for garnish
  • Lemon - 1, cut into wedges

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, chili flakes, black pepper, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
  2. Place the lamb shanks in a large resealable bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Ensure the lamb is well-coated, seal the bag or cover the dish, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Remove the lamb shanks from the marinade and let any excess drip off, reserving the marinade.
  4. Grill the lamb shanks for about 25-30 minutes, turning occasionally and basting with the reserved marinade, until they are cooked through and have a nice char.
  5. Once cooked, allow the lamb shanks to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  6. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
